Autism Special Interest Group Newsletter - Invitation

"We would like to take a moment of your time to invite you to join the Autism Special Interest Group (SIG). There are a number of benefits to joining the SIG including receiving the newsletter, networking with other professionals, contributing to the development of guidelines and receiving information about upcoming conferences. Please note that there are no membership dues to join and you do not need to hold a BCBA or BCABA. Information about the goals and activities of these SIGs are included at the end of this email.

If you would like to join the Autism SIG, please contact Suzannah Ferraioli, Secretary-Treasurer, at autismsig@gmail.com.

The Autism SIG represents ABA’s largest and most active SIG. Current objectives of the Autism SIG include:
o Printing and disseminating a quarterly newsletter (to be described below);
o Holding an annual business meeting at the conference each year;
o Sponsoring an annual Panel Discussion (to be described later);
o Working with the Autism Area Coordinator to identify invited speakers and topics;
o Developing and disseminating tools such as the Consumer Guidelines to assist consumers in accessing our discipline;
o Working very closely with the Parent Professional Partnership SIG on shared goals and concerns; and
o Sponsoring a Student Research Contest each year to recognize the efforts of students in the field.

The Autism SIG newsletter is an effort of the Autism SIGs for the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) and is distributed via the internet to the vast majority of Autism SIG members. Visit our website, www.autismsig.org for current and past issues of the newsletter.

Newsletter features include conference previews, program descriptions, clinical intervention write-ups, research synopses, book reviews, citations and/or abstracts of recently published ABA research related to the assessment and treatment of autism. We also include conference previews and job announcements. The newsletter is distributed quarterly and includes a new theme for each issue.

To assist consumers in making more informed choices when selecting providers, the Autism SIG authored a revision of the Guidelines for Consumers of Applied Behavior Analysis Services for Individuals with Autism and Related Disorders on September 15, 2004. Since 1999, a number of respected ABA agencies and consumer groups have expressed gratitude to the SIG. Please visit the following link to view the current Guidelines - http://www.abainternational.org/sub/membersvcs/sig/contactinfo/Autism.asp
