On one of the most common misconceptions about applied behavior analysis in the field of autism treatment / education, Guezzi (2007) says: 

"The method [discrete-trials teaching] can also be used to teach declarative knowledge about the world of people, objects, and events as well as knowledge about one’s own thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and attitudes."
